Emma...the toddler

We are at such a fun stage with Emma right now! She is learning so much, so fast! Every day there is something new to add to the mix. Yesterday, she was holding her baby doll and rocking it and going "shhhh" - such a sweet little mommy. It's hard to think that when I was pregnant, I wasn't stressed about having a newborn. I was really looking forward to that because I thought newborns sleep a lot and you don't really have to entertain them. But I was super concerned about that newborn turning into a toddler. I questioned what I was going to do all day to entertain a toddler. And surely there would be no rest because I would be constantly chasing the child down. Boy - did I flip flop. Sure newborns are so sweet and cuddley but for me it was so stressful. And now my sweet toddler is so fun and it is absolutely amazing to watch her learn and try to figure out things.

But with the sweet toddler comes the world of meltdowns and not getting exactly what I want right now. It's hard to believe that Miss Emma can become a completely different person when she doesn't get what she wants or she is told to wait. This is when the fun of parenting begins. And believe me it is so hard to not give in because there is a balance to - Mommy has to teach you a lesson to How much does a 15 month old really understand. When we give in, we are teaching her that when you throw a fit you get what you want right now. And when we don't give in it is the thrashing of the teeth! But Bobby and I want to raise Emma to be Christ centered and to not be an entitled and selfish human being...so the balance of parenting begins. Just because you want goldfish for breakfast doesn't mean you get goldfish for breakfast - we are going to eat our yogurt and fruit! However, if you finish your breakfast, then you'll be rewarded with some goldfish!

So all in all we are loving this time with Emma and teaching her new things (we even love the meltdowns!). But if you think about us, please pray that Bobby and I do our best in raising Emma to be what God wants her to be.
